About Us – Break The Divide

Connection is the heart of climate resilience.

We support young people to understand their climate emotions, connect with their communities, and take meaningful action in a changing world.

Why We Do It

Our work is grounded in three core commitments that guide everything we do.

🌿

We Love Nature

We tackle climate change because the world we share is worth protecting. Young people deserve a future that supports their wellbeing.

👥

Youth Leadership

Young people bring creativity and clarity to global challenges. Their voices are essential to building sustainable solutions.

🤝

Community Strength

Resilience grows when we support each other. Together, we transform anxiety into action and isolation into belonging.

How We Got Started

Break The Divide was born from a simple observation: young people are carrying the weight of the climate crisis, and they’re doing it alone. In communities across Canada and around the world, youth experience profound isolation alongside their climate emotions.

Our founders believed that connection could transform this reality. They created spaces where young people could name their climate emotions, find solidarity with others, and discover their power to create change. What started as a bold experiment has grown into a global movement.

Through our workshops, peer mentorship programs, and community dialogues, young people are moving from isolation and anxiety toward connection, agency, and hope. They’re learning to process climate emotions collectively, building relationships across differences, and taking meaningful action in their communities.

Our Values

Belonging and Connection

We foster spaces where young people feel safe, included, and supported. Connection to self, others, and place is at the centre of our work. We build communities where youth feel part of something larger than themselves.

Emotional Authenticity

We honour the full range of climate emotions and support youth in expressing their experiences with honesty. We cultivate psychological safety where joy, grief, empowerment, fear, and excitement can be shared openly.

Youth Leadership

We trust the insight and creativity of young people. Our programs create opportunities for youth to lead, facilitate, and shape climate solutions. We prioritize peer leadership and train young people as mentors.

Justice and Equity

We centre the experiences of racialized, Indigenous, newcomer, disabled, and 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Our work is grounded in justice and uplifts the perspectives of marginalized communities.

Collective Action and Agency

We believe communities grow stronger when people learn and act together. We support youth in taking meaningful action that reflects their values and build a sense of agency and responsibility.
