Right to a Healthy Environment National Youth Consultations

Break The Divide, in partnership with Sustainable Youth Canada, led national consultations to gather youth perspectives on the implementation of the Right to a Healthy Environment under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). Through 16 workshops engaging 295 youth across nine provinces, we collectively created a report highlighting youth-driven recommendations to strengthen environmental justice, intergenerational equity, and accountability within Canada’s environmental framework.

Participants emphasized the need for clear definitions, stronger protections for vulnerable communities, integration of Indigenous and scientific knowledge, and transparent, accessible decision-making processes. This program was supported by Environment and Climate Change Canada and Health Canada.
